What’s a song that grew on you over time?
I first encountered future islands on Jools Holland's Hootenanny NYE 2015. My new girlfriend (now wife) and I were in London to see the fireworks but after an exceedingly spicy thai curry we both felt a bit poorly and decided to stay in our hotel room and watch the fireworks on TV instead.
Future Islands were one of a handful of acts we saw that night but lead singer Samuel T Herring's fairly unique dance style stuck in my head and for a while that was the defining attribute of Future Islands in my mind.
We added Seasons (Waiting for you) to our joint car playlist and each time it came up on shuffle I found myself enjoying it more and more. It's a great example of the mid-2010s synthwave style shared by Chvrches, Tame Impala and occasionally unexpected entrants like Paramore.
Came for the novelty of the funny dancing man, stayed for the solid bop and warm synth noises.
