My tracks...
What’s the last song you discovered and loved instantly?
This morning I heard "The Waiting" by Marcus King; it's a cover of the song by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. It's a bit slower and is injected with a different personality. I really liked it.
Who Laughs Last (feat. Kristen Stewart)
Lord Huron
An artist credit I didn't expect to see today: Kristen Stewart. I think it's just spoken word on her behalf and I'm not sure if it was recorded for this music or if Lord Huron pulled from another source.
Giorgio by Moroder
Daft Punk
I threw on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories and the track that surprised me the most was Giorgio by Moroder. I've never listed to this album beyond the singles, I really enjoyed it.
Today I listened to Moist's "Creature" album for the first time in many years. I don't remember the last time I actually did listen to it. But the stand-out track for me is not songs like Resurrection or Leave It Alone, but Disco Days. I really like the piano in that one.
No Time For Love
Broke Royals
Big Dream (2024) by Broke Royals
I bought this album for last Bandcamp Friday, and it does not disappoint. Catchy indie rock sound. It's a short album but very much worth it.
Lonesome Is A State of Mind
Djo
This morning's drive into work was dedicated to listening to some new releases. There were some strong contenders for my number one selection, but the winner has to be Djo - Lonesome is a State of Mind. It's the combination of the music and vocals that hooked me. And actually, it reminds me a lot of one of my favourite bands, Sloan.
Today's album for One Album A Day - 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die is "Live!" from Fela Ransome-Kuti and The Africa '70 with Ginger Baker. It's pure funk, and not at all something I expected. I didn't know what to expect, actually. I'd never heard of this album before, but already I agree with the editorial staff of 1001 Albums - it is a must-hear.
Under Pressure
Queen & David Bowie
What’s your favorite collaboration between artists?
The first one that comes to mind is Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure. It's such an iconic song, and the vocals complement each other so well. I'll never get tired of it.
