A song from your teenage years.
One of my favorite things about growing up in Buffalo was having access to awesome radio stations from Toronto, which meant discovering great Canadian bands like the Tragically Hip, Sloan, and many others. Not to mention other alternative bands that weren’t played on Buffalo stations. Long live 102.1 The Edge.
Sloan’s Smeared was one of those albums I fell in love with quickly. It started out with attempts to record “Underwhelmed” on live radio using my tape deck and eventually playing the hell out of the cassette once I could find it.
It’s my favorite Sloan album by far and one of the key parts of my high school years.
And the lyrics from the song are just a perfect glimpse of high school aged love.
She said, "You is funny" I said, "You are funny" She said, "Thank you" And I said, "Nevermind" She rolled her eyes Her beautiful eyes
The point is not the grammar It's the feeling That is certainly in my heart But not in hers
