👨‍👧‍👧 "Best Parts of Me" – Will Dempsey

As a dad of three girls, this song honestly stopped me in my tracks.

“Best Parts of Me” by Will Dempsey isn’t just another emotional country song—it’s a window into the heart of being a father. The first time I heard it, I felt like someone had put into words exactly what I’ve always struggled to say. It’s everything I feel when I look at my girls—the pride, the awe, the deep, overwhelming love.

There’s a line in the first verse that really stuck with me:

"It's like God took my heart right out of my chest
And wrapped it all up in a little pink dress…"

That’s exactly it. Each one of my daughters carries a piece of my heart, and every time I hear this song, I think of them—their smiles, their silliness, their strength.

Here’s the chorus that hits home every single time:

'Cause the best parts of me were given to you
And I hope that all of your dreams come true
And as time goes by, I want you to know
That I'll be with you wherever you go
You'll always be my baby girl

If you’re a parent—especially a girl dad—this one is going to hit deep. It’s not just about being proud of them; it’s about recognizing that our children are the best of what we have to offer this world.

It’s a beautiful reminder that even when we feel like we fall short, our children are often the most honest reflection of the love and goodness we try to give them. This one’s for all the dads out there trying to show up, even when it’s hard. For me, my girls are my greatest pride—and truly, the best parts of me.

Give this one a listen. But fair warning: you might need a minute afterward.

🎶 "Don’t You (Forget About Me)" – Simple Minds (1985)

I’m a huge fan of '80s music—honestly, I think it's the best era of music. There’s just something magical about the sound, the emotion, the synths, and the unforgettable hooks that came out of that decade. Today’s track is one of those timeless songs that hits every single time:

You probably recognize it from The Breakfast Club, which is one of those movies that just sticks with you. That final scene with Judd Nelson walking across the football field with his fist in the air? This song is that moment. It’s pure ‘80s gold—melancholic but powerful, catchy but emotional.

What I love most about this track is how it feels like it's talking directly to you. There’s a kind of longing in it, like a reminder that even if life moves on, some people and moments deserve to be remembered.

Here’s the chorus—go on, sing along:

Don’t you forget about me
I’ll be alone, dancing, you know it, baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out

If you’ve never really sat down and listened to it outside the movie, give it a go. And if you know it already—well, it’s always worth a replay.

I first discovered Sleep Token through my friend @jcrabapple@dmv.community, and I’ve been captivated ever since. Their sound is truly one of a kind.

One of my favorite tracks by them is "Take Me Back to Eden" from their third album. It’s a genre-blending masterpiece—seamlessly weaving together techno, tech-metal, R&B, post-rock, and pop, all within a single song. That bold fusion is what initially drew me in.

I guess it goes to show, does it not?
That we've no idea what we've got
Until we lose it (Until we lose it, until we lose it)
And no amount of love will keep it around
If we don't choose it (Choose it)
And I don't know what's got its teeth in me
But I'm about to bite back in anger
No amount of self-sought fury
Will bring back the glory of innocence

Need You Now artwork

Some songs hit deeper than others.
Need You Now by Lady A will always be one of those for me.

It was my brother and his first wife's favorite song.
We all grew up together—my brother, her, and me. Just kids, hanging out, making memories.
Even after my brother and I moved away, the two of them stayed in touch.
Over time, that friendship turned into love.

They got married in 2011.
She was planning to move down to Texas to be with him.
They were just starting their life together.

But she passed away—suddenly, heartbreakingly—only five days after their wedding.

And now, every time I hear this song, I feel her there.
It hurts. But it also brings her back, if only for a few minutes.

“It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now...”
“And I wonder if I ever cross your mind…”
“Guess I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all.”

Those lyrics… they hit different when you've lived through this kind of loss.

This song is more than just a memory.
It's a piece of her I get to keep.

Ever hear a song that slams into your emotions like a semi doing 70?
This one wrecked me.

As a dad of three daughters, Post Malone’s song hit hard. The first time I heard it, I broke—full-on tears. All I could picture was myself, standing in that moment, with all three of my girls.

It’s raw. It’s real.
And it’s one hell of a powerful song.

And she might be wearin' white
But her first dress it was pink
She might be your better half
Yeah, but she's my everything
We'll both love her forever
But I loved her long before
And one day I know I'll give her away
Buddy, that don't mean she's yours

This was our class graduation song back in 2005—like it was for so many others around that time. Hearing it now takes me straight back to high school, a simpler time before the responsibilities of adulthood kicked in.

I remember thinking it was just a catchy tune at first, easy to sing along with. But now, it hits differently. It reminds me of a time when the biggest worry was passing finals, not juggling work, bills, and everything else life throws at you.

Funny how one song can hold so much nostalgia.

As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come whatever
We will still be
Friends forever

He'll Have to Go artwork
He'll Have to Go
Jim Reeves

Today we’re throwing it way back — to a classic country song that means a lot to me. It’s He’ll Have to Go by Jim Reeves. Some of you might not even know who that is — and that’s okay. But for me, hearing his voice brings back some of the best memories.

Jim Reeves was one of my Grandpa’s all-time favorites. Whether it was a cassette or later a CD, he always had him playing in the car. That smooth voice was the soundtrack of so many summer days.

When I got older, I started mowing lawns with my Grandpa — he had a little side business, and I’d help him out. We’d drive from house to house, him behind the wheel, Jim Reeves playing, and the two of us singing along.

Out of all the songs, He’ll Have to Go is the one that stuck with me the most. I’m not even sure why. Maybe it was how calm he looked driving, humming along like he’d heard it a thousand times — because he had.

Now that he’s gone, this song takes me right back to those rides. Him driving, me in the passenger seat, the sun beating down, grass clippings in the air, and that voice on the stereo. It’s a memory I’ll always hold close.

Whisper to me, tell me do you love me true Or is he holding you the way I do? Though love is blind, make up your mind, I've got to know Should I hang up or will you tell him, he'll have to go?

I Should Have Been True artwork

Today’s track is a special one — not just a favorite, but a memory.

This song by The Mavericks will always hold a piece of my heart. It takes me back to the summertime drives with my brother and our grandma — back when she’d drop us off at our Aunt’s on her way to work. Same town, same route, same song.

We’d sing this one loud — especially the chorus — windows down if the weather was good, just belting it like no one was listening. It was silly, joyful, and effortless. Just us, the car, and her.

Now that she's gone, those moments mean everything. They sneak up on me when I hear this track — and yeah, sometimes it brings a tear. But mostly, it brings her back to me, even just for a few minutes.

I should have been true
I should have been blue
I shouldn't wonder why you're gone
I should have known that I was wrong

I miss her. And I’ll never forget that feeling — wind in our faces, voices cracking, all of us laughing. That’s what this song is.

This is one of my favorite songs from blink-182. When I started dating my now wife, she got me into blink-182 and I have been in love with them ever since.

This is sort of our song now.
