What's a song band you initially disliked but now love?
I just could not get into Sleep Token initially, despite being surrounded by metalheads who were like really into the band. I eventually realized that it was because I was listening to them wrong.
You see, based on all the recommendations from metalheads and The Algorithm I had kind of assumed that Sleep Token must be a metal band. When their music didn't deliver that expected ferocity, I discarded it as being boring an uninteresting - despite me also enjoying plenty of music that isn't metal.
Once I eventually revisited their music without that incorrect context and expectation, I was able to really appreciate their whole vibe as its own thing. Sleep Token isn't a metal band; while they do incorporate some metalish elements into their sound, their music kind of transcends categorization.
They've now become one of my favorite bands, and I really appreciate the way that they experiment, explore, and reinvent their sound. Their latest album, Even In Arcadia, is a masterpiece - but my Sleep Token journey definitely started with Granite.
