“99 Luftballons” by Nena is an anti-war song from 1983 that impressively addresses the absurdity of the arms race and the fear of nuclear war - in the middle of the Cold War.
But I've only known that for a few years. When I was a child and teenager, I used to just party to it and didn't think much about the lyrics.
