I have been fortunate enough to see Mavis Staples in concert. It was powerful to witness what an artist can do with her voice, both through performance and activism. Mavis surrounds herself with friends and collaborators, and her backing band that night was North Mississippi Allstars (record producer Jim Dickinson’s sons Luther and Cody, plus Chris Chew). It was an incredible lineup and I’d like to catch Mavis and friends one more time live in concert.
