This is one of my favorite protest songs. I first encountered this song and the artist Bill Fay through an excellent cover version by Jim O’Rourke and Glenn Kotche.
While I think I prefer O’Rourke’s version, alas, it is not on Apple Music. But the rest of Bill Fay’s album is wonderfully apocalyptic.
