What song best captures your current phase of life?
When they found out I was 38, someone told me I was "in my prime". I laughed. I'm not sure what that means, really.
This phase of life sees me about 2 decades into my wage earning years, raising a little kid with someone I've been married to for more than a decade now. I've moved around a lot in the last twenty years. I take a pill every morning to help me with my blood pressure. There are new gray hairs in my reflection in the mirror each week it seems. If I'm not already middle aged, I'm quickly approaching it.
Here's a lyric that I'm feeling now:
If there's something that you've missed
It's something you can find with time
I don't know how much time I have left, but I'm trying to make the most of it. Trying to live with intention. Trying not to be in a rush, either. One of my regrets is that the younger version of me was in such a rush to "grow up," and there's things I fear I might have missed out on.
Like most of Jeff Tweedy's lyrics, I can't figure out what the rest of this song is about. But those two lines from the chorus resonate with me now. I love the mellow instrumentation that opens up to the blistering guitar solo in this track. I play the two Loose Fur records often. There are crucial tracks on both these recordings.
