The question: What song changed your perspective on music?

When I first heard Stereolab’s song “Cybele’s Reverie”, it blew up my preconceived notions of what great music sounded like. I was around 15 and my musical tastes were solidly punk, alternative, indie rock with some Brit Pop mixed in. Stereolab had this electronic dancey dreamy feeling with unexpected changes pocketed throughout their songs and singing in another language! It was totally different and really opened my mind to other adjacent genres I continue to explore and enjoy all these years later- dance, electronic, psychedelic pop and jazz. Seeing them do their thing live when we lived in Seattle was one of my peak live music experiences.
