Share a song that makes you feel invincible.
I went to college downtown Chicago, and I remember when "Le Disko" came out, I would walk around the city to the beat of the music, feeling like a complete badass.
Describe the perfect song for a road trip and why it works.
Those moments when I've been driving for what feels like forever. When the mile markers whizz by in a meaningless blur. When the lines become hypnotic. When I worry I've become decoupled from reality. When I need to ground myself. I turn to a song that will build and build and build until I am fully immersed and belting along with it, welcoming the horizon which feels perpetually out of reach.
What song would you use to describe your current relationship?
Always a good excuse to recommend this one, which I wrote about at length a little while back.
Describe music that reminds you of a specific place you've traveled.
How on the nose can we get?
When my best friend (now wife) and I were approaching the Chicago city limits after nearly 30 hours in a car on our drive back from Banff, Sufjan Stevens emerged on the road trip playlist I had put together. There are many songs I associate with that entire journey, but few moments remain as remarkable as when "Chicago" welcomed us home. Any time I hear that song now, I'm back in the passenger seat of that car. Not quite delirious, but certainly punchy. Not ready to be home, but appreciating the closure nevertheless.
I haven't posted in a couple days, so here's a banger.
What’s a hidden gem you wish more people knew about?
You're welcome.
What song reminds you of your first heartbreak?
Leaving this without commentary. Instead, after I click the "Create Entry" button, I will cease to exist, cursed to haunt the planet as embarrassment incarnate.
Describe your favorite summer as a kid using a single song.
I hate what that this song is associated with this fucking band, given the horrifying shit the lead singer did. But this was also the soundtrack to my summer between high school and college.
What song best matches the energy of today?
NOT TO BE TOO ON THE NOSE OR ANYTHING, BUT...
