Love this song and the lyrics. Ironically I spent a good chunk of my day in the ER with my dad who wasn’t feeling well. It was also the most vulnerable I’ve seen my dad ever, even considering we buried my mom and sister in the last few years.

He was honest about a lot of things, from health to feeling sad and overwhelmed with emotions and wanting to do more with his grandkids. He cried multiple times, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen. He even admitted that holding in emotions is dumb and the pressure society puts on you to be masculine and strong is dumb. I was glad to hear him say it because a lot of my childhood, and even into adulthood, I felt that pressure too. When I had kids I made a conscious decision to not put my shit onto my kids and be as open, emotional, and honest as I can possibly be to show them a different kind of masculinity. One that cries and still works hard to provide - in all methods, not just strength.

It was a hard day, but one I will not forget. I was glad to have it with him and especially glad that he was able to get discharged and go home.
