Describe your favorite summer as a kid using a single song.
The summer before 6th grade, we took a family holiday to Colorado for a number of weeks. It's one of my fondest memories of my childhood and it's easy to sum it up with a single song, because I heard this song on that trip and it literally changed the course of my life.
U2 is a band that's easy to scoff at these days for a whole host of reasons, but to my 11 year old ears, hearing the chimey dotted-eighth note delay guitar riff at the beginning of "Where the Streets Have No Name" was revolutionary. It sounded like nothing I had ever heard before and I decided then and there that I was going to play music. For that, I will always be grateful.
